Dr. Olutayo “Tayo” Odusanwo was born in Lagos, Nigeria. Leaving home at age 10 to attend boarding school, very early, she learned the value of taking initiative, being self motivated and mentoring others.
She obtained her first dental degree in Nigeria in 2005, during which time she co-founded a mobile dental program to help educate, screen and refer elementary school children from lower income communities for dental conditions.
After dental school, she moved to Glasgow, Scotland to study for a Masters degree in Molecular Biology, conducting research on the physiology of horse sweat glands. The itinerant scholar subsequently relocated to the State University of New York at Buffalo NY to continue her research on salivary glands, receiving another Master of Science degree.
Dr. Tayo graduated from Boston University School of Dental Medicine in 2013, earning her DMD with High Honors and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. While at BU, she served as a Big Sister of Greater Boston, mentoring an 8-year-old at one of the local elementary schools.
Dr. Odusanwo completed residency in Pediatric Dentistry from NYU Langone Hospitals whilst providing care to the under-served and uninsured children, conducting community dental outreaches to the local public schools in Western Massachusetts and received the Richard C. Pugh award for finishing in the top 3% nationally in the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry qualifying examination.
Additionally, Dr. Tayo, a board certified Pediatric Dentist, teaches NYU Langone pediatric dental residents remotely.
An interesting fact about her is that she has voluntary control of her inner ear muscles! In her leisure time, she enjoys spending time with her 8 niblings and 3 god-children, cooking, amateur kick-boxing and binge watching tv.
Lagos, Glasgow, Buffalo, Boston and now, Middle Georgia – obviously Dr. Tayo loves seeing new places and making new friends!
